HIGH SPLITS

Wednesday, February 25, 2015

High splits are a way for me to be sexy without over doing it and who doesn't love the idea of showing off a little skin? Craving a revealing wrap skirt, I sat down at my sewing machine and decided to create one, instead of roaming the city looking trying to find the hidden gem.  I chose this maroon colored silky fabric to keep my skirt flowy, and paired it with a simple black long sleeve blouse and vintage fur scarf. Occasionally I'll tap into my creative side and design classic yet easy pieces to add to my wardrobe.  So welcome to my closet, you sexy wrap skirt! XO

BLUSHED

Monday, February 23, 2015

When all else fails wear all white, a cotton candy colored coat, and some super bad maroon Prada boots. Ok, so I'm exaggerating a bit but I absolutely adore this color combo in the winter months.  A fan of all white after labor day (I hope I'm not alone on this one), I let my outfit fall to the background and featured this blush H&M coat I got for a steal during the summer. My winter splurge had to be these suede Prada boots I copped during the Saks semi-annual sale, which paired great with the soft palette. Playing around with different hues in the same family takes a look from basic to basically right on trend in a stylish, yet creative way. XO

THE IVY LEAUGE

Friday, February 20, 2015

The days are gone when black and white was confined to the 9-5's and corporate setting, now this super chic combo pops up everywhere in fashion.  Black and white ensembles are chicer than ever before and we just love how fresh and sharp outfits are when choosing to stick to the basics.  This sister look was inspired by the Ivy style, keeping it preppy yet true to our personal style aesthetic.  Playing around with different variations of fashion is exhilarating and keeps our wardrobe interesting.  The key to this look is starting with the classics, those timelessly effortless pieces that have a preppy edge to them.  Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors are great designers that embrace their inner Ivey League side from time to time and have some cool pieces that work great with this style.  So try it out and always remember to have fun. XO

CLASSICALLY TRAINED

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

What I love about fashion and just my style in general, is that I can literally have a wardrobe full of staple  pieces and pair them together for a look that is sure to be clean, chic and classic.  Plus, there's hardly ever a miss when sticking to the timeless black and white pairing. This look is simple: a little leather on leather on leather with a basic white tank to clean up the palette. XO

A TOUCH OF GREY

Thursday, February 12, 2015

Choosing a color of the day gives me a good jump-start on deciding what to wear.  So many different things can influence the colors that we choose.  It often depends on our mood, the weather, or even something that may have caught our eye while strolling IG in the morning.  Whatever it might be, a color is the driving force for our overall look so what inspires your style? Being inspired by something can open up more style possibilities than you may think.  This look was honestly inspired by a slight cold we both had and were feeling a bit under the weather.  We pulled out our grey statement pieces and styled them both with light and dark accents.  Selecting colors complimentary to your color of the day helps complete your look no matter if your inspiration is bitter or sweet. What's your color of the day? XO

CUSTOMIZED

Sunday, February 8, 2015

No closet is complete without a few signature pieces- the kind guaranteed to make people inquire, "Where'd you get that?"  Don't get me wrong, we all have an appreciation for the classic staples that every woman should have in her wardrobe like a basic white shirt, skinny jeans and a little black dress.   But sometimes it's fun to push the envelop a bit and take risks with fashion choices and indulge in a statement piece that will boost your current wardrobe.  Playing around with idea of acquiring some new & unique clothes, I teamed up with Atlanta designer Chai Design Studio to design this hi-low wool skirt, customized for my fall winter wardrobe. So stand out from the crowd and rock your statement pieces with confidence. XO

COZY CHIC

Wednesday, February 4, 2015

The cooler temperatures call for hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, cozy fireplaces and of course warm chunky sweaters.  How could it not, everybody loves a great knit right?  Each fall/winter season the runways overflow with the comfy style and showcase every kind of sweater imaginable.  From ribbed tunics to slouchy oversized knits, the sweater is a classic wardrobe piece that will continue to live on in fashion.   The cool thing about sweaters is how versatile they are to style giving you an easy breezy look whether dressing it up or down.  On a recent run to H&M I spotted this super adorable cow neck sweater and grabbed it along with a fresh pair of leather skinnies and this cool embellished handbag. This one stop shop outfit makes getting dressed a breeze on those cool days that call for a warm look. XO.

SOFT EDGE

Monday, February 2, 2015

The fashion world is full of variety and options, from dark and edgy pieces with extreme tailoring and detail, to light and feminine pieces in lace and florals. Although these looks seem to be on opposite ends of the style spectrum, they actually work great together and the best strategy for most of us is to mix the two.  Pairing hard and edgy garments with soft and girly pieces is a creative way to put together an attention-grabbing outfit that’s truly legit.  But really, how many ways are there to rock the contrast between hard and soft looks without looking overdone?

Broadly speaking, we can divide everything in our closets into two categories: hard and soft.  Hard items are things like crisp white button downs, leather jackets, ripped jeans and metal jewelry.  The soft stuff is a little easier to spot because it's practically anything you find yourself wanting to touch all day like faux furs, silks, lace, sweaters and scarves.  Honestly, the combination options for the two are endless and exploring with this trend can be so much fun.  If you're prone to dressing one way, incorporate in elements of the other for a completely different look.  We're biased towards the traditional rules and standards of dress of course :-) so the key is just to experiment and just have fun with it.  XO

DIY

Sunday, February 1, 2015

Whenever I'm feeling experimental, I like to take a piece in my closet and reinvent it.  Always loving a cute pair of ripped jeans, I decided to take a pair of black Hudson skinny jeans from the pile of collectibles and add a little touch of my personal style. All this look requires is a razor blade, washer & dryer, needle & thread, and some chain from your local arts and craft store. To finish off my look, I kept it simple adding a black bodysuit and blazer, letting my new pair of jeans be the star. Next time you're looking through your old clothes, stop and think about what you could add, or even take away from the garment to make it look like new all over again.. Xo
